Objective.Toquantifythebene?tsinsurvivalandqualityoflifeinpatientsreceivingbevacizumab(BEV)forrecurrentglioblastoma (GBM).Methods.Thisisaretrospectivestudyof40adultpatientswithrecurrentGBMtreatedbetween2005and2009atasingle institution.Allpatientshadinitialtreatmentwithsurgery,radiation,andconcurrenttemozolomide,thenmonthlytemozolomide. Over250chartswerescreened.Su?cientdatawasavailablefor20patientstreatedwithBEVand20patientswhodidnotreceive BEV at the time of recurrence. The independent living score (ILS), designed to reward long-term independent survival, was calculatedforeachpatient.Results.ThemeanILSwasnearlydoubleintheBEVgroupcomparedtotheNo-BEVgroup(15.0 versus8.2,P = 0.002,t-test).Twomonthsafterinitiationoftherapy,themediansteroiddosedroppedbyover90%inpatients treatedwithBEV,butdoubledintheNoBEVgroup.Mediansurvivalfromthetimeofrecurrencewassigni?cantlya?ected:10.6 monthsintheBEVgroupversus4.2months(P 0.001,logranksurvival)intheNoBEVgroup.Conclusions.BEVincreases independentlivingandlengthensoverallsurvivalafterGBMrecurrence.Reductioninsteroiddosemaycontributetoprolonged indepe
