A novel thiosemicarbazone from 2-acetonaphthone (represented as acnTSC) has been synthesized and its basic coordination chemistrywithzinc(II),cobalt(II),andcopper(II)explored.Thecomplexeswerecharacterizedbyelementalanalysisandvarious spectroscopictechniquesandarebestformulatedas[M(acnTSC)2Cl2]withthemetallikelyinanoctahedralenvironment.The anticanceractivityofthecomplexeswasdeterminedagainstapanelofhumancoloncancercells(HCT-116andCaco-2).The compoundsbindtoDNAviaanintercalativemodewithbindingconstantsof9.7×10 4 M M M for 5 4 ?1,1.8×10 ?1,and9.5×10 ?1 thezinc,cobalt,andcoppercomplexes,respectively. 1.Introduction ofaction.Thus,proteinsmustalsobeconsideredapossible targetforinteraction.
