University,Umea?, Sweden Abstract Background:Prospectivestudieshaveindicatedthatelevatedbloodglucoselevelsmaybelinkedwithincreasedcancer risk,butthestrengthoftheassociationisunclear.Weexaminedtheassociationbetweenbloodglucoseandcancerriskina prospectivestudyofsixEuropeancohorts. MethodsandFindings:TheMetabolicsyndromeandCancerproject(Me-Can)includescohortsfromNorway,Austria,and Sweden; the current study included 274,126 men and 275,818 women. Mean age at baseline was 44.8 years and mean follow-uptimewas10.4years.Excludingthefirstyearoffollow-up,18,621menand11,664womenwerediagnosedwith cancer,and6,973menand3,088womendiedofcancer.WeusedCoxregressionmodelstocalculaterelativerisk(RR)for glucoselevels,andincludedadjustmentforbodymassindex(BMI)andsmokingstatusintheanalyses.RRs
