DirectWritingofFlexibleElectronicsthroughRoom TemperatureLiquidMetalInk YunxiaGao1,HaiyanLi1,JingLiu1,2* 1Key Laboratory of Cryogenics, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, 2Department of Biomedical Engineering, SchoolofMedicine,TsinghuaUniversity,Beijing,China Abstract Background:Conventionalapproachesofmakingaflexiblecircuitaregenerallycomplex,environmentunfriendly,timeand energyconsuming,andthusexpensive.Here,wedescribeforthefirsttimethemethodofusinghigh-performanceGaIn10- based electrical ink, a significantly neglected room temperature liquid metal, as both electrical conductors and interconnects,fordirectlywritingflexibleelectronicsviaarathereasygoingandcosteffectiveway. Methods:Thenewgenerationelectricinkwasmadeanditswettabilitywithvariousmaterialswasmodifiedtobeeasily writtenonagroupofeithersoftorrigidsubstratessuchasepoxyresinboard,glass,plastic,silicagel,paper,cotton,textiles, clothandfiberetc.Conceptualexperimentswereperformedtodemonstrateandevaluatethecapabilityofdirectlywriting theelectricalcircuitsviatheinventedmetalink.Mechanismsinvolvedwereinterpretedthroughaseriesoffundamental measurements. Results:TheelectricalresistivityofthefluidlikeGaIn10-basedmaterialwasmeasuredas34.5mV?cmat297Kbyfourpoint probe method and increased with addition of the oxygen quantity, which indicates it as an excellent metal ink. The conductivelinecanbewrittenwithfeaturesthatareapproximately10mmthick.Severalfunctionaldevicessuchasalight emittingdiode(LED)arrayshowingdesignedlightingpatternsandelectricalfanweremadetoworkbydirectlywritingthe liquidmetalonthespecificflexiblesubstrates.Andsatisfactoryperformanceswereobtained. Conclusions:Thepresentmethodopensthewaytodirectlyandquicklywritingflexibleelectronicswhichcanbeassimple assigninganameordrawingapictureonthepaper.TheuniquemeritoftheGaIn10-basedliquidmetalinkliesinitslow meltingtemperature,wellcontrolledwettability,highelectricalconductivityandgoodbiocompability.Thenewe
