Methodology/PrincipalFindings:WeusedELISAteststoevaluatespecificimmunoglobulinG(IgG)responsestosalivary glandextracts(SGE)inadultsexposedtoAedesalbopictusinReunionIsland.Thepercentageofimmuneresponders(88%) andlevelsofanti-SGEIgGAbswerehighinexposedindividuals.Atanindividuallevel,ourresultsindicateheterogeneityof theexposuretoAedesalbopictusbites.Inaddition,low-levelimmunecross-reactivitybetweenAedesalbopictusandAedes aegyptiSGEswasobserved,mainlyinthehighestresponders. Conclusion/Significance:Abresponsestosalivacouldbeusedasanimmuno-epidemiologicaltoolforevaluatingexposure toAedesalbopictusbites.Combinedwithentomologicalandepidemiologicalmethods,a‘‘salivary’’biomarkerofexposure toAedesalbopictuscouldenhancesurveillanceofitsspreadandtheriskofarbovirustransmission,andcouldbeusedasa directtoolfortheevaluationofAedesalbopictuscontrolstrategies.
