During the winter season, the prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency (,30ng/mL) was 84% in males and 89% in females. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency(,20ng/mL)was30%inmalesand46%infemales.Withincreasingserum25(OH)Dconcentrationscategorized as,10,10–20,20–30,and$30ng/mL,themeanPTHandboneturnovermarkerslevelsgraduallydecreasdinbothsexes (p,0.001).Therewasaninverserelationshipbetweentheserum25(OH)DandPTHconcentrationsinbothgenders,butno threshold of 25(OH)D at which PTH levels plateaued was observed. There were modest but significantly inverse relationshipsbetweenthelevelsof25(OH)Dandboneturnovermarkers,butnoplateauwasobservedforserum25(OH)D levelsupto40ng/mL.
