InCanada,datafromthemanufacturerofomalizumabindicatethatthefrequencyofanaphylaxisattributedto Xolairinpost-marketinguseisapproximately0.2%.Otherresearchers,includingtheAmericanOmalizumabJoint TaskForce(OJTF),havesuggestedaloweroverallfrequencyof0.09%. Thispaperprovidesasummaryoftheepidemiologicresearchcarriedouttodateandpresentsaconcise,practical setofrecommendationsfortheprevention,monitoringandmanagementofomalizumab-associatedanaphylaxis. Preventiontipsincludeadviceonpatienteducationmeasures,concomitantmedicationsandoptimaladministra- tion.Forthefirstthreeinjections,therecommendationistomonitorinclinicfortwohoursaftertheomalizumab injection;forsubsequentinjections,themonitoringperiodshouldbe30minutesoranappropriatetimeagreed uponbytheindividualpatientandhealthcareprofessional.
