Summaryofbackgrounddata:Traumaticinjuriesassociatedwithfallsorcollisionsarewelldocumentedin speedskatersbutsofarnostudieshaveinvestigatednon-traumaticlowbackpain.Previously,thesacroiliacjoint wassuspectedasafrequentoriginofcomplaint,weaimedtoinvestigatethisassumption. Methods:Twochiropractorsexaminedeliteinline-speedskatersoftheGermannationalteamduringthreesports eventsbetweensummer2010and2011.Atestclusteroffiveprovocativetestsforthesacroiliacjointwasselected basedonreliabilityandvalidity. Results:Atotalof37examinationswereconductedon34athleteswithlowbackpainduringthethreesport events.Thereportedpainintensitiesrangedfrommildtomoderatepain(VAS23.4±13.4to35.1±19.2).About 90%ofcasesshowedinvolvementoftheSIjointofwhichagain90%presentedwithleftsidedsymptoms. Conclusions:Non-traumaticcomplaintsofthelowbackoriginatingfromtheleftsacroiliacjointfrequentlyoccurin competitiveinlinespeedskaters.
