Population analysis of a purebred beef cattle herd 1 2 (Received 25 May 1994; accepted 17 November 1994) Summary - Lifetime records of females born from 1966 to 1975 were used to estimate compare population parameters of a purebred Hereford (HE) and a multibreed synthetic (SYl) beef cattle herd raised under a stringent culling policy whereby heifers and cows failing to wean a calf each year were culled. Population size averaged 118 cows, for lower Qx values) than HE. SY1 had higher means than HE for Ro (1.57 ±0.11 1.21 t rate of population growth in SY1.
