To increasetherates,itisimportanttounderstandthemotivesandbarriersfortheacceptanceofthevaccine.Weconducted thisstudytodeterminepotentialpredictorsoftheuptakeofA(H1N1)influenzavaccineinacohortofJapanesegeneral population. Methodology/PrincipalFindings:Byusingself-administeredquestionnaires,thispopulation-basedlongitudinalstudywas conductedfromOctober2009toApril2010among428adultsaged18–65yearsrandomlyselectedfromeachhousehold residing in four wards and one city in Tokyo. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed. Of total, 38.1% of participants received seasonal influenzavaccine during thepreceding season,57.0%hadwillingness toaccept A(H1N1) influenzavaccineatbaseline,and12.1%hadreceivedA(H1N1)influenzavaccinebythetimeoffollow-up.Afteradjustment forpotentialconfoundingvariables, peoplewhohadbeenvaccinatedweresignificantlymorelikelytobelivingwithan underlyingdisease(p=0.001),toperceivehighsusceptibilitytoinfluenza(p=0.03),tohavewillingnesstopayevenifthe vaccinecosts$US$44(p=0.04),tohavereceivedseasonalinfluenzavaccineduringtheprecedingseason(p,0.001),andto have willingness to accept A (H1N1) influenza vaccine at baseline (p,0.001) compared to those who had not been vaccinated.
