Professional driversarepronetometabolicsyndrome(MetS)anditscomplicationsbecausetheirworkingenvironmentischaracterized by numerous stress factors such as lack of physical activity due to working in a fixed position, disruption in diet, and irregularsleephabits.TheaimofthepresentstudywastoestimatetheprevalenceofMetSamonglongdistancedrivers residinginWestAzerbaijanprovinceinIran. Materials:Toassesstheprevalenceofmetabolicsyndromeamongprofessionallongdistancedrivers,12138participants wereenrolledinthiscrosssectionalstudy.TheMetSwasdefinedusingInternationalDiabetesFederationcriteria. Results:Among12138participants,3697subjectsfoundtobeMetS.Thecrudeandage-adjustedratesofMetSwere30.5% and32.4%respectively.BasedonBodymassindex(BMI),5027subjects(41.4%)wereoverweight(BMI$25.01–30kg/m2), and 2592 (21.3%) were obese (BMI $30.01kg/m2). The presence of central obesity was more common than other components.TheassociationsofMetSwithBMI,pack-yearsmoking,age,weeklydrivingdurationanddrivingexperiences weresignificantinthelogisticregression.ByincreasingBMI,pack-yearsmoking,age,weeklydrivingdurationanddriving experiences,oddsratioofMetSwasincreased. Conclusion:ThestudysuggeststhatMetShasbecomeanoteworthyhealthproblemamongIranianlongdistancedrivers. Thismightbeduetothefollowingfacts:sittinginafixedpositionforlonghourswhileworking,cigarettesmoking,job stress, unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. Educational programs should be established
