DietrichH?fner1*,KristianReich2,InaZschocke2,AnnettLotzin2,HannsMeyer1,JensKettner1andAnnemieNarkus1 Abstract Background:Recentlywereportedthevalidationofthe“Allergy-Control-SCORE?(ACS)”whichassessessymptom severityaswellasmedicationuseonthreedimensionslung,noseandeyes.Theaimofthisstudywastotestthe validityofthescoreforeyesandnose. Methods:One-hundred-twenty-oneconsentingsubjects(age19-65y),including81patientswithallergic rhino-conjunctivitis(RC)and40healthycontrols,participatedinthestudy.Patientsrateddailynasalandeye symptomsusinga4-pointscale(none,mild,moderate,andsevere)andtheiruseofanti-symptomaticmedication. Validationcriteriawerepollencountsinthecourseofthestudyperiod.Discriminationcapacitywasanalyzedby comparingtherhino-conjunctivitisAllergy-Control-SCORE?(RC-ACS?)valuesofallergicpatientsandhealthy controls.ConvergentreliabilitywasassessedbycorrelatingRC-ACS?valueswiththeglobalseverityofallergy,the qualityoflife,andtheallergy-relatedmedicalconsultations.Retestreliabilitywasassessedbythecorrelationofthe repeatedmeasuredRC-ACS?scoresduringeachoftwoconsecutiveweeks. Results:ConvergentreliabilityanalysisindicatedasignificantcorrelationbetweenRC-Allergy-Control-SCORE?and globalseverityofallergy(r=0.691;p0.0001),qualityoflife(r=0.757;p0.0001)andallergy-relatedmedical consultations(r=0.329;p=0.0019).RC-Allergy-Control-SCORE?showedagoodretestreliability(r=0.813;p 0.001) anddiscriminatedextremelywellbetweenallergicpatientsandhealthycontrols(Median:3.7range:0;14.1vs. Median:0range:0;2.9;p0.001),withasensitivityof93.8%andaspecificityof92.5%atascorevalueof0.786. Conclusions:TheRC-ACS?canbeconsideredasvalidandreliabletoassesstheseverityofrhino-conjunctivitis severityinclinicaltrialsandobservationalstudies.
