Methods:Atotalof476womenincluding122womenwithperinataldeathswereassessedwiththeEdinburgh PostnatalDepressionScale(EPDS-B)at6weeksand6monthspostpartum,andfollowedupfornegativesocial consequencesat6monthspostpartum.Trainedfemaleinterviewerscarriedoutstructuredinterviewsatwomen’s home. Results:Overall43%(95%CI:33.7-51.8%)ofwomenwithaperinatallossat6weekspostpartumweredepressed comparedto17%(95%CI:13.7-21.9%)withhealthybabies(p=0.001).Depressionstatusweresignificantly associatedwithwomenreportingnegativelifechangessuchasworserelationshipswiththeirhusband(adjusted OR=3.89,95%CI:1.37-11.04)andfeelingguilty(adjustedOR=2.61,95%CI:1.22-5.63)followingtheresultsof theirlastpregnancyoutcomeafter6monthsofchildbirth. Conclusions:Thisstudyhighlightsthegreatlyincreasedvulnerabilityofwomenwithperinataldeathtoexperience negativepsychologicalandsocialconsequences.Thereisanurgentneedtodevelopappropriatementalhealth careservicesformotherswithperinataldeathsinBangladesh,includinginterventionstodeveloppositivefamily support.
