Bohnetal.DiagnosticPathology2012,7:154 /content/7/1/154 CASE REPORT OpenAccess Pulmonaryarterysarcomawithangiosarcoma phenotypemimickingpleomorphicmalignant fibroushistiocytoma:acasereport OlgaLBohn1,5*,EricAcosta-PoncedeLeón2,OscarLezama3,NinaPRios-Luna1,SergioSánchez-Sosa1 andAntonioLlombart-Bosch4 Abstract:Primarysarcomasofthemajorbloodvesselscanbeclassifiedbasedonlocationinrelationshiptothe wallorbyhistologictype.Angiosarcomasaremalignantneoplasmsthatarisefromtheendothelialliningofthe bloodvessels;thosearisingintheintimalcompartmentofpulmonaryarteryarerare.Wereportacaseof pulmonaryarteryangiosarcomaina36-yearoldfemalewithpulmonarymasses.Thepatienthadnootherprimary malignantneoplasm,thusexcludingametastaticlesion.Grossexaminationrevealedathickenedrightpulmonary arteryandanecroticandhemorrhagictumor,fillingandoccludingthevascularlumen.Themassextendeddistally, withinthepulmonaryvasculatureoftherightlung.Microscopically,anintravascularundifferentiatedtumorwas identified.ThetumorcellsshowedexpressionforvascularmarkersVEGFR,VEGFR3,PDGFRa,FGF,Ulexeuropaeus, FVIII,FLI-1,CD31andCD34;p53wasoverexpressedandKi67proliferativeratewasincreased.Intravascular angiosarcomasareaggressiveneoplasms,oftenassociatedwithpooroutcome.
