Methods:The38RApatientswhowereprescribedTNF-aantagonists,40RApatientswhowerenotconsidered forTNF-aantagonistuse,30rheumatologypatientswithahistoryornewdiagnosisoftuberculosis,23leprosy patients,and41healthycontrolswerestudied.QTFandTSTweredoneonthesameday,andbothwererepeated afterameanof3.6±0.2monthsinpatientswhousedTNF-aantagonists. Results:TreatmentwithTNF-aantagonistsdidnotcauseasignificantchangeintheQTForTSTpositivityrate (34%versus42%;P=0.64;and24%versus37%;P=0.22).Patientswithleprosyhadatrendforahighermean IFN-glevel(7.3±8.0)andQTFpositivity(61%)thandidtheothergroups;however,thedifferencewasnot significant(P=0.09andP=0.43). Conclusions:TreatmentwithTNF-aantagonistsdoesnotseemtoaffecttheQTFtesttoanappreciabledegree. ThehigherIFN-glevelsinleprosypatientsdeservesfurtherattention.
