Previous studies have relied largely on the analyses of handwritten traces or kinematic analysis of handwriting; whereas electromyographic(EMG)signalsassociatedwithhandwritinghavereceivedlittleattention.Hereweshowforthefirsttime, amethodinwhichEMGsignalsgeneratedbyhandandforearmmusclesduringhandwritingactivityarereliablytranslated intobothalgorithm-generatedhandwritingtracesandfontcharactersusingdecodingalgorithms.Ourresultsdemonstrate thefeasibilityofrecreatinghandwritingsolelyfromEMGsignals–thefindingthatcanbeutilizedincomputerperipherals andmyoelectricprostheticdevices.Moreover,thisapproachmayprovidearapidandsensitivemethodfordiagnosinga varietyofneurogenerativediseasesbeforeothersymptomsbecomeclear.
