Methods:Asimulationstudywascarriedouttoinvestigatemethodsfortheanalysisofbinaryresponseswith extremecaseproblems.Alinearmixedmodelthatincludedafixedeffectandrandomeffectsofsireandresidual ontheliabilityscalewasusedtogeneratebinarydata.Fivesimulationscenarioswereconductedbasedonvarying percentagesofextremecaseproblems,withtruevaluesofheritabilityequalto0.07and0.17.Fivereplicatesof eachdatasetweregeneratedandanalyzedwithageneralizedprior(g-prior)ofvaryingweight. Results:Pointestimatesofsirevarianceusinganormalpriorwereseverelybiasedwhenthepercentageof extremecaseproblemswasgreaterthan30%.Dependingonthepercentageofextremecaseproblems,thesire variancewasoverestimatedwhenanormalpriorwasusedby36to102%and25to105%foraheritabilityof0.17 and0.07,respectively.Whenag-priorwasused,thebiaswasreducedandeveneliminated,dependingonthe percentageofextremecaseproblemsandtheweightassignedtotheg-prior.ThelowestPearsoncorrelations betweentrueandestimatedfixedeffectswereobtainedwhenanormalpriorwasused.Whena15%g-priorwas usedinsteadofanormalpriorwithaheritabilityequalto0.17,Pearsoncorrelationsbetweentrueandfixedeffects increasedby11,20,23,27,and60%for5,10,20,30and75%ofextremecaseproblems,respectively.Conversely, Pearsoncorrelationsbetweentrueandestimatedfixedeffectsweresimilar,withindatasetsofvaryingpercentages ofextremecaseproblems,whena5,10,or15%g-priorwasincluded.Thereforethisindicatesthatamodelwitha g-priorprovidesamoreadequateestimationoffixedeffects.
