Methods:ToevaluateICUclinicianperceptionsregardingadequacyofcommunicationregardingprognosis,we developedasurveyandadministeredittoacrosssectionofsurgicalICUnurses,surgicalICUphysicians,nurse practitioners(NPs),andsurgeons. Results:Surgeonshadahighsatisfactionwithcommunicationregardingprognosisforthemselves(90%),ICU nurses(85%),andICUphysiciansandNPs(85%).ICUnursesnotedhighsatisfactionwithpersonal(82%)andICU physicianandNP(71%)communication,butlow(2%)satisfactionwiththatprovidedbysurgeons.ICUphysicians andNPsnotedhighsatisfactionwithpersonal(74%)andICUnurse(88%)communication,butlower(23%) satisfactionwiththatprovidedbysurgeons.ICUnurseswerethemostlikely(75%)toreportspeakingtopatients andpatientfamiliesregardingprognosis,followedbysurgeons(40%),andthenICUphysiciansandNPs(33%). SurgeonsnotedmanyopportunitiestospeaktoICUnursesandICUphysiciansandNPsaboutpatientprognosis andnotedthatcommentswereoftenvalued.ICUphysiciansandNPsandICUnursesnotedmanyopportunitiesto speaktoeachotherbutfeweropportunitiestocommunicatewithsurgeons.ICUphysiciansandNPsthoughtthat theircommentswerevaluedbyICUnursesbutlessvaluedbysurgeons.ICUnursesthoughtthattheircomments werelessvaluedbyICUphysiciansandNPsandsurgeons. Conclusions:ICUnurses,surgeons,andICUintensivistsandNPsvariedwidelyintheirsatisfactionwith communicationrelatingtoprognosis.Cliniciangroupsalsovariedinwhethertheythoughtthat
