Results:WeanalyzedRFLPvariationintwomitochondrialgenes,cox1andatp1,inoffspringoftenplantsfroma naturalpopulationofS.vulgarisinCentralEurope.Wealsoinvestigatedtranscriptionprofilesoftheatp1andcox1 genes.MostDNAhaplotypesandtranscriptionprofileswerematernallyinherited;forthese,transcriptionprofiles wereassociatedwithspecificmitochondrialDNAhaplotypes.Oneindividualexhibitedapatternconsistentwith paternalinheritanceofmitochondrialDNA;thisindividualexhibitedatranscriptionprofilesuggestiveofpaternal butinconsistentwithmaternalinheritance.Wefoundnoassociationsbetweengenderandtranscriptprofiles. Conclusions:Specifictranscriptionprofilesofmitochondrialgeneswereassociatedwithspecificmitochondrial DNAhaplotypesinanaturalpopulationofagynodioeciousspeciesS.vulgaris.
