Methods:Across-sectionalstudyof222Chineseadultswithtype2diabeteswasconductedinaprimarycare center.Wecollectedinformationondemographics,provider-patientcommunication(knowledge),socialsupport (motivation),self-efficacy(behavioralskills),anddiabetesself-care(behavior).Thevaluesoftotalcholesterol(TC), low-densitylipoproteincholesterol(LDL-C)andhigh-densitylipoproteincholesterol(HDL-C)werealsoobtained. MeasuredvariablepathanalyseswereusedtotheIMBframework. Results:Provider-patientcommunication(β=0.12,p=.037),andsocialsupport(β=0.19,p=.007)andself-efficacy (β=0.41,p.001)wereindependent,directpredictorsofdiabetesself-carebehavior.Diabetesself-carebehaviors hadadirecteffectonTC/HDL-C(β=?0.31,p.001)andLDL-C/HDL-C(β=?0.30,p.001). Conclusions:ConsistentwiththeIMBmodel,havingbetterprovider-patientcommunication,havingsocialsupport, andhavinghigherself-efficacywasassociatedwithperformingdiabetesself-carebehaviors;andthesebehaviors weredirectlylinkedtolipidcontrol.Thefindingsindicatethatdiabeteseducationprogramsshouldincluding strategiesenhancingpatients’knowledge,motivationandbehavioralskillstoeffectbehaviorchange.
