A current development situation of Higher Vocational Education: Challenges and opportunities coexist
1.1 Vocational Education opportunities for development
In recent years, China’s higher vocational and technical education has greatly developed, to the end of 2005, there were set up independently of the higher vocational colleges 1091, accounting for 60.9% of the total number of colleges and universities.
From the perspective of national development strategy, basically accomplish industrialization, energetically apply IT, accelerate modernization, the first 20 years of this century, China’s economic and social development of the strategic task. Using information to promote industrialization, promotion of information technology, promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure and transforming economic growth, improve the capability of independent innovation, and constantly improve the level of modernization, all of our human resources structure and quality put forward higher requirements. Various sectors of the national economy requires not only a large number of scientists, engineers and management personnel, and requires highly skilled personnel and high-quality workers. From China’s demographic structure and future development, China’s higher education, school-age population to 2008 will reach its peak of 1.2 million people, of which more than half to accept the higher vocational education.
