About the auther A(lfred) E(rnest) Mander Born: 1894 in England, Malvern Nationality: English Occupation: Writer The present text is taken from Logic for the Millions by Alfred Ernest Mander, published by The Philosophical Library, New York,1947. 2. Theme of the story: The article is meant to serve as a suggestive example of a curious, inquiring mind at work. The author tells us to find out how we came by our beliefs and he suggests that we should know the bases or grounds of the beliefs.He insists that we see all sides of a question and encourages us to test our beliefs. 3. Structure of the text Part 1 (para.1) about: The author’s proposition of the general practice of thinking. Part 2 (paras.2-21) about: The author’s analysis of five non-rational factors in the determination of people’s opinions.
