In my major, there are a large number of professional terms, which seems boring and hard to understand. I will show you in a simple way. First of all, the major I learn is called IE, short for Industrial Engineering. In the next part, I will tell you what IE do in some cases. For example, imagine that you are a workman of a dumpling shop. Your work is to bring proper number of dumplings to the cook. You remove the dumplings from the refrigerator to the cook according to the demand of customer back and forth. In this way, your distance increases, which makes you feel tired. What is worse, customers’ waiting time is longer invisibly. IE can help you solve the problem. What you need to do is to observe and sort the previous orders and hunt for useful information, which numbers are always been ordered. Then you can pick out the certain number of dumplings when you are not very busy and put them in a near place in advance. In this way, you can save time and improve efficiency. What is more, reducing the lead time can shorten customers’ waiting time, so as to reduce their complains and improve shop’s benefits, which does great help to your shop. Take another case for example. In many factories, many line operators are at work standing to save space and keep them clear-headed. But it indeed can increase the sense of weariness of the staff. IE emphasizes on people-centered consciousness. It remembers the human element. In order to achieve the final goal, we can add a bar to the bottom of the work desk. If workman feels tired, he can put one foot to the bar to relieve legs’ pressure. Now I am still weak in the field.
