Abstract
DHA,now is not only as the nutrient to promote our brain function and eyesight, but also can have the effect of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. From the latest researches and studies,we can easily find that different consistency DHA(sometimes may be combined with something else) have different extensive function of that. And with the development of the medical technology,in the feature,we may use DHA to protect our health from the intimidation of cancer.
Introduction
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid that is a primary structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, sperm, testicles and retina. It can be synthesized from alpha-linolenic acid or obtained directly from maternal milk or fish oil.[1]
DHA is the most abundant omega-3 fatty acid in the brain and retina. DHA comprises 40% of the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the brain and 60% of the PUFAs in the retina. Fifty percent of the weight of a neurons plasma membrane is composed of DHA.[2] DHA is richly supplied during breastfeeding, and DHA levels are high in breastmilk regardless of dietary choices.
DHA modulates the carrier-mediated transport of choline, glycine, and taurine, the function of delayed rectifier potassium channels, and the response ofrhodopsin contained in the synaptic vesicles, among many other functions.[3]
DHA deficiency is associated with cognitive decline.[4] Phosphatidylserine (PS) controls apoptosis, and low DHA levels lower neural cell PS and increase neural cell death.[5] DHA levels are reduced in the brain tissue of severely depressed patients.[6][7]
The structure
DHAs structure is a carboxylic acid(~oic acid) with a 22-carbon chain(docosa- is Greek for 22) and six (Greek hexa) cis double bonds (-en~);[8] the first double bond is located at th
