《红楼梦》典故英译策略之定量研究 Domestication Foreignization Domestication is a term used to describe the translation strategy in which a transparent, fluent style is adopted in order to minimize the strangeness of the foreign text for target language readers. Foreignization is a term used to designate the type of translation in which a Target Text (TT) is produced which deliberately breaks target conventions by retaining something of the foreignness of the original. Foreignization→Domestication Grade 1: literal translation, retaining the image Grade 2: literal translation with explanation or annotation Grade 3: the compromising method Grade 4: free translation, omitting the image Grade 5: free translation, changing the image Methodology In order to ensure the consistency of the original authors with the translators, the samples were all taken from the former 80 chapters. By means of random sampling, chapter 9, Chapter 45 and chapter 79 were selected. In all, there are 55 allusions in the above three chapters. Their two translation versions were recorded and the translation methods as well as the grades were also defined. a.
