The Day’s First Stop Is Online” Brad Stone’s article “Breakfast Can Wait. The Day’s First Stop Is Online” Published in the website of New York Times on August 10th , 2009, depicted a picture and analyzed that amid the background of Internet age, the changes of people’s morning life style and how morning online activities impose effects on American families relationship. At the beginning of the article, the author cited an example of the Gudes to remind readers that early-morning online activities decrease the family breakfast time. Next, the author elaborated this idea by quoting some complaints from parents like Ms. Gude and Ms. Perle whose children started their morning and ended their evening with online activities. Then Brad Stone emphasized on the time of online activities in a day by offering some data from network companies. He tried to prove that people sleep later and wake up earlier than before with the popularity of Internet technology and electronic products. Based on the above phenomenons, Brad Stone pointed out the consequence that children forget their chores and breakfast time which changes the predictable rituals and causes chaos even conflicts. Therefore at the end of the article Brad detected parents’ response that they try to set limits on Internet use in the morning, even though they know it is not easy for them and their children to resist the temptation of technology. As far as I am concerned, the development of technology is inevitable but the descent of family breakfast time can’t be utterly attributed to online activities. First of all, the family relationship is a big topic when we attempt to explain it. There are many factors to influence family relationship, like generation gap, parents’ educational ideas, family background, parents’ career and so on.
