Abstract: With the rapid devel pment f the ec n my, p litics, culture, educati n,
science and techn l gy, China. s internati nal status is pr gressively rising, and Chinese Craze
is heated up. The pace f Chinese spreading t the wh le w rld is increased. In rder t help
m re f reigners t learn Chinese language and its characters, and t reduce the burden f
learning them, we have c mpiled the dicti nary f 800 Essential Chinese Characters . This
paper elab rates n the selecti n pr cess and the stylistic rules f the explanat ry n tes f the
800 Chinese characters and the justificati ns emb died in the explanat ry n tes.
