Abstract Objective To investigate the hrelationship betw een plasma concent rations of transforming grow th
f actor ( T GF)-beta1 ( T GF-B ) and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 ( PAI- 1) and diabetic atherosclerosis.

Method Color Doppler ultrasound w as used to measure the intima-media thickness ( IMT) in 62 cases of type 2 dia-
betic mellitus( DM) . Fasting plasma T GF-B1 and PAI- 1 concent rations w ere measured by ELISA in those patients
and 28 healthy controls. Result ¹ T he plasma concentrations of T GF-B1 and PAI- 1 in DM w ere significantly higher
