Scientific English Grammar and Writing A few words about the course: This course comprises the following two parts: 1.Scientific English Grammar 2.Scientific English Writing These two parts will be combined together, and they are closely related. Well, what we are going to do in class mainly is do exercises together. Maybe rules are quite familiar to you, so practice is essential. As everyone knows, practice makes perfect. Here we go. Before my lecture begins, let us do some translation work. The examples cites above just show the importance of grammar in some way. In writing scientific English, grammar appears more important. Some professors and graduate students at our university sent their papers to the well-known international technical journals, such as the American IEEE and the British IEE.The reviewers comment might often to be like this: What is described in your paper is acceptabler. But your English is poor. Please improve it(or:Please rewrite your paper entirely). Today, well begin with the parts of speech. They are just like the components in eletronic devices. Before you start to learn an amplifier, for instance, you should have a good understanding of the functions of vavious components. Then you will be able to learn the circuit well. Otherwise, you wont be able to do so,Im afraid. However, thisd point is often ignored by the Chinese students while they are learning a foreign language. As a matter of fact, many problems come from the misunderstanding of the part of speech of a word and its function in a sentence. [ = All that is necessary (needed) for the satellite to move in its orbit …] [=In order to move in its orbit, the satellite need only have the initial speed …] [All you need to do is press this button.] (3)输出随输入的变化是很大的。 (要求:用“变化”作句子的主语) 下面正式讲课。尽可能记好笔记。每次课所讲的内容努力听懂,课后一定要通读课本,复习。
