2003 年 8 月 清史研究 Aug2003 　第 3 期 Studies in Qing History 　 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　No 3 　 学术与文化 近代上海口岸知识分子的兴起 ———以墨海书馆的中国文人为例 王立群 [摘要] 十九世纪四、五十年代 , 王韬、李善兰、蒋剑人、管嗣复、张福僖等中国文人陆续进入墨海书馆工 作 , 成为通商口岸第一批与西方人合作的知识分子。与传教士的合作译书工作使他们逐步了解西学 , 肩负起向 中国输入、传播西学的历史使命。他们所翻译出版的西方科学文化书籍 , 促进了西方近代科学在中国的传播 , 在中国近代史上具有重要意义。 [ 关键词] 墨海书馆 　西学东传 　传教士 　口岸知识分子 [ 中图分类号] K252 　 [文献标识码] A 　 [文章编号] 1002 - 8587 (2003) - 03 - 0097 - 10 The Rise of Chinese Intellectuals in Modern Shanghai : An Analysis of the Chinese Intellectuals Working at the London Missionary Society Press During the 1840s and 1850s , some Chinese literati including Wang Tao , Li Shanlan , Jiang Tunfu , Guan Sifu and Zhang Fuxi successively joined the London Missionary Society Press Thus they became the first group of Chinese intellec tuals to cooperate with Westerners Their translation work with the missionaries enabled them to comprehend Western learning gradually , and to undertake the historical mission to import Western learning to China The Western technical and cultural works that they translated accelerated the diffusion of modern Western science Their efforts had great signifi cance for the unfolding of modern Chinese history 　　墨海书馆可以说是近代西学东传浪潮中传 到上海。1843 年 8 、9 月间 , 他在香港参加了 教士在中国建立的第一个据点 , 1860 年以前 关于《圣经》中译问题的传教士会议以后 , 取 在西学传播中起了最重要的作用。鸦片战争战 道北上 , 与在舟山活动的伦敦会传教医师雒魏 败后 , 清政府被迫签定了《中英南京条约》、 林 ( William Lockhart , 1811 —1896) 会 合 , 《五口通商章程》、《五口通商附粘善后条款》 一同前往上海。1843 年 12 月 23 日
