A b stra c t A b str a c t T he w om en rem ain ing in rural areas(W R IR A ) refer to a group of m arried w om en w ho are rem ained in rural hom etow n to take care of the fam ily w hile their husband leave for w ork outsides in the distant cities. T hey are a special group in these transitional tim e. N ow adays W R IR A ,as a social phenom enon, w idespread in C hinese rural areas and w ill exist in a rather long future. T heir healthy cond ition s and self-fu lfillm ent have been terrib ly affected and negatively d isturb ed by th e stress and burden from both outside w ork in the farm land and chores inside hom e. M eanw h ile, the long-lasting separation w ith their husbands have influenced negatively on their psychological conditions and m arriages. W ith these factors, on one hand, W R IR A are difficu lt to adapt them selves to the new life in the socialist construction in the rural C h ina, on the other hand, their m arriages are likely to corrupt into p ieces and reduce the stab ility of m arriage. T herefore, studying on w ell-being and quality of th eir m arriage has both the academ ic value and practical sign ificance. In order to get inform ation of the w ell-being and quality of m arriage of W R IRA in H ua X ian, H enan province, questionnaire and case interview m ethod are adopted in th is study. B ase on th is inform ation, the thesis analyzes the data, exp lores the reasons and gives suggestions to im prove stability and w ell-being of W R IR A s m arriage. A ccording to th e survey. W R IR A gen erally have a low w ell-being level, show ing on the follow ing respects :firstly, liv ing apart cause a series of problem s in their m arriage ;secondly, their life quality is d ifficu lt to im prove by lack ing m aterial and cu lture resources in country
