Abstract Wang Tao is a famous thinker in the modern history of China, and at the same time he is also an outstanding representative of the early reformists, his improvement ideas play an important role in the modern Chinese intellectual history. Because of Wang Taos special life experiences, he will be the master of the combination of traditional culture and western culture, formed the theory of highly unique improved far more than other thinkers contemporary thought. Wang Taos legal thoughts accounts for an important part of his theory of improvement, his knowledge integrates East and the West, put forward to governance in order to control the outside for the purpose of a series of law thoughts, such as constitutional ideas, commercial law thought, legal reform ideas and international law thought. These methods of thoughts are very progressive and have an advanced meaning in his era. The author in this article attempt to Wang Taos legal thought background, main features, main purpose of the system and the main content of this paper and analysis, around this purpose, the text is going to divided into five parts. The first part mainly narrates the era background of Wang Tao’s legal thought and the personal factors which influence his legal thought. Wang Tao was born in 1828, passed away in 1897, is the basic and Chinese throughout modern history. Therefore, his legal thoughts were always with modern Chinese unique mark of the times. At the same time, Wang Tao’s unique law thought produces were also influenced by his special life experiences.
