They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa. 示例2：When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. 示例3：While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. 二、过去完成时 概念：永远记住：过去完成时涉及到的是过去范畴的时间，与现在和将来无关；再请记住：当要描述的一个动作先于另外一个动作或者于某个具体的过去时间之前发生时，就要用过去完成时。 示例：A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds.(这里的had told是过去完成时，因为它是在a few hours之前发生的) 三、过去将来时 概念：过去将来时，顾名思义，从过去某个时间来看是将来要发生的事情。 示例：A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds.(这里的would try to steal就是过去将来时，因为从someone告诉警方这个时间来看，偷窃steal是以后要发生的事情，当时还没有发生) 四、some与others 概念：当讲到很多人中的一些人时，往往用some替代；再谈到其他人时，往往用others替代 示例1：When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. 示例2：While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel.
