BIOS中英对照表(国外英语资料) The DMA is what? When we add a new sound card or other adapter card to the computer, the installer may remind us that we should choose a DMA channel. So what is the DMA? DMA (Direct Memory Access), or DMA, is a mechanism for rapidly transmitting data. Data transfer can be from the adapter card to memory, from memory to the adapter card, or from one memory to another. The importance of DMA technology is that it does not require CPU participation when using it for data transfer. The DMA controller is on every computer motherboard, computer programming, usually with an adapter on the ROM (such as a floppy disk drive controller on the ROM) to store program, the program control DMA transmitting data. Once the controller is initialized and the data is delivered, the DMA can escape the CPU and complete the data transfer independently. During the brief period of the DMA transfer, there were basically two processors working for it, one executing program code, one transmitting data. Another benefit of using DMA to transfer data is that the data is transferred directly between the source address and destination address, without the intermediate medium. Two steps are required if a byte is passed from the adapter card to memory through the CPU. First, the CPU reads the byte from the adapter card to the internal register and then passes the register to the appropriate address of memory. The DMA controller simplifies these operations to one step, and it operates the control signals on the bus to complete the writing section. This greatly improves the speed and efficiency of the computer. Until today in development of the computer, the DMA transmitting data is no longer used in memory to memory, CPU speed is very fast because it is over, do it, faster than using DMA control, but want to transmit data between adapter card and memory, is still the DMA. From the adapter card to the memory transfer data, the DMA simultaneously triggers the bus that reads the data bus
