In this experiment, drip irrigation system automatically governed irrigation in accordance with a water level sensing system in the mini-pan with the help of evaporation. Data acquisition was performed by an electronic circuit, which processed data and then sent the data to the microcontroller (Pic16f877). In the system, a closed loop control system based on sensing water level in the mini-pan was used to activate irrigation, thereby the system started irrigation whenever water level in the mini-pan dropped to the set level. The performance of the automated system can be increased as the irrigation timing in the software is adjusted according to plant growth stages. INTRODUCTION Pressurized irrigation systems when combining by an automation systems have become more effective in irrigation practices. Nowadays, the current trend has been swithcing from a manual system to automatic operations in a pressurized system and also that automation and electronics in agriculture become more popular all around the world (Josi and Gokhale, 2006). Energy savings, reduced labor cost and control in fertilizer application are among some of the major advantages in adopting auotomated techniques in drip irrigation systems (Yildirim and Demirel, 2011). Automated irrigation systems provide high crop yield, save water usage (Mulas ,1986), facilitate high frequency and low volume irrigation (Abraham et al. 2000), and also reduce human errors (Castanon, 1992).
