【Abstract】In English teaching, comprehensible input is very important. How to input comprehensible materials in English teaching efficiently and effectively? What is comprehensible input? It is hard to make clear the complicated and controversial problem, but to attach great importance to the application of comprehensible input theory and to input comprehensible language materials in English teaching to improve the students’ English abilities are very necessary.

Introduction: Linguistics is defined as the scientific study of language. So it is very necessary to further study Stephen Krashen’s Input Hypothesis and apply his comprehensible input theory to improve the efficiency of English teaching and learning.
Ⅰ、Stephen Krashen’s input hypothesis and what comprehensible input is about
The Input hypothesis is Krashen’s attempt to explain how the learner acquires a second language. In other words, this hypothesis is Krashen’s explanation of how second language acquisition takes place. According to this hypothesis, the learner improves and progresses along the ‘natural order when he/she receives second language ‘input’ that is one step beyond his/her current stage of linguistic competence. For example, if a learner is at a stage ‘i’, then acquisition takes place when he/she is exposed to ‘Comprehensible Input’ that belongs to level ‘i + 1’. By providing comprehensible input a bit higher than the learners’ current level, the learners’ LAD will be activated and contribute to acquisition.
