The population structure and distribution p attern of Hep tacodi u m m iconioides , a rare plant in t he Tiantai Mountain of Zhejiang province were studied in t he p ap er . The size classes of t he population structure can be divided as follows according to t heir proportion : class Ⅳ, medium- size trees and class Ⅲ, small trees. But t here was no class Ⅰ, seedling. The population age structure belong to mid senescent typ e . As for t he height class structure , t he trees of 6 - 8 metres height were t he most numerous , up 28. 45 % of t he total ; t he trees of 8 - 10 metres height were 2 1. 97 % ; t he tallest trees were less t han 14 metres. The whole population was characterized wit h t he clump , including bot h t he class Ⅲsmall trees and t he class Ⅳmedium size ones. However , t he class Ⅴ, big trees was featuring t he uniform distribution . The clump intensity was gradually reduced from t he small trees to t he big ones.
