Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) was a German composer, who is generally regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of music, and was the predominant figure in the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western classical music. His reputation and genius have inspired — and in many cases intimidated — ensuing generations of composers, musicians, and audiences. While primarily known today as a composer, he was also a celebrated virtuoso艺术大家 pianist and conductor, and an accomplished violinist. Birth and family Beethoven was born in a music family in Bonn. His father Johann van Beethoven, who worked as a tenor男高音歌唱家 in the same musical establishment and would give lessons on?piano and?violin?to make some money. So, Beethoven displayed his musical talents at an early age and was taught by his father?Johann van Beethoven and Christian Gottlob Neefe. Beethoven’s first music teacher was his father. life In about 1800 his hearing began to deteriorate, and by the last decade of his life he was almost totally deaf. He gave up conducting and performing in public but continued to compose; many of his most admired works come from this period. His persistence in art also have touched and inspired thousands of people. Achievements During the lifetime of Beethoven, he had created countless beautiful melodies. 9 symphonies (交响曲) 32 piano sonatas(钢琴奏鸣曲) 5 piano concertos (钢琴协奏曲) 2 masses (弥撒曲) 11 overtures(序曲) 16 string quartets (弦乐四重奏) 10 violin sonatas(小提琴奏鸣曲) Other numerous works. Influence Beethoven is viewed as one of the most important transitional figures between the Classical and Romantic eras of musical history.
