Only measuring quantitative integrated indexes such as COD , BOD is not Cr 5 sufficient for evaluating the safety ofwastewater. Industrialwastewaterwater quality indexes including routinewater quality indexes, biotoxicity indexes and chem icalcharacteristic indexeswereproposed. Biotoxicity tests and their application in industrialwastewater evaluationwere discussed. Thenecessity and mi portance to carry outwastewater safety management using integrated biotoxicity method was pointed out. It is suggested that the application of D ap hn ia toxicity tests for industrialwastewater safety evaluation should be the top choice in China. In addition, the progress ofwastewater biotoxicity control criteria athome and abroad was summarized, and itwas pointed out that the biotoxicity control index and toxicity discharge criteria for industrialwast
