It is found that there exist tw o endothermic peak at 74 e and 790 e differently in the DSC curve of the quartz sand during heat- ing. T he endothermic energy of the sands being heated during phase transformation is more than the exothermic energy being cooled, and the calcined sands need more energy than the new sands during phase transformation. T he expansion ratio of the sands increase w ith temperature, and the expansion ratio of the calcined sands are low er than that of the new sands apparently.
