研究生英语课件-5

Unit 5 Sandwich Generation I. Introduction to the Text The “ Sandwich Generation” refers to those people who provide care for both their parents and their won children, often holding a job in the United States and Canada. They are both the parents of their own children and the children of elder parents for whom they are also responsible. Like slices of meat in the sandwich, people in this group often feel ”squeezed” as their children and aging parents compete for their time, resources and personal energy. That is why they are called the Sandwich Generation. In this text.. the author first tells a story to introduce the issue that the sandwich Generation has great difficulty in caring for both their children and their parents. Then she analyzes the causes of the problems concerning the elder care that Sandwich Generation is faced with. Next, more specific examples are given to further explain problems connected with the elder care. And the author also gives us one example to show that some families can deal with the elder care well. Finally, she draws the conclusion that for many Canadian families who bear a wide range of new responsibilities, elder care can take a physical, and emotional sacrifice. II.
