Hong Kong is an important international commercial port and the shipping industry is developed. At present, there are 472 ports in the 186 countries and regions, which form the perfect maritime transport network with Hong Kong as the hub and the routes to the five continents and three oceans. There are 28 routes from Hong Kong to the world. Hong Kong is also the gateway to mainland business and tourism. In 2005, Hong Kong residents returned to the mainland with an estimated 62.7 million visits, and the number of overseas visitors to the mainland reached 4 million. There are 128 flights a day, about 100 flights, more than 400 trains and 40, 200 vehicles travelling through Hong Kong and the mainland. Hong Kong is one of the international financial centres, and financial institutions and markets are closely linked. The governments policy is to maintain and develop the perfect legal framework, infrastructure and administrative system, regulatory system, for the people involved in the market to provide a fair competitive environment, maintain financial and monetary system is stable and that Hong Kong can effectively compete with other major financial centers.
