Methods With reference to Chinese Pharmacopoeia, the characters, total ash, acidinsoluble ash, the content of indigo and indirubin of 16 batches of indigo naturalis samples are measured and comprehensively analyzed. Results There is a variety of indigo naturalis on the market, different from each other in quality. Indigo and indirubin, tw o component indexes required according to the quality standard, are not found at all in some of the samples. Conclusions T here are serious problems in the quality of indigo naturalis. We should improve its quality standards, standardize and optimize its production process to guarantee its quality .
