Th is paper presents an expermi ental research on restrained composite beams in fire conducted in the FireLaboratory atTongjiUn iv. A steel framew as designed to supply the restraint to the specmi en. Tw o types of connection w ere exam ined w ith the bottom of the composite beam subjected to standard fire. The force and moment of the composite beam are calcu lated indirectly through the horizontal and vertical disp lacement of support. Results of the expermi ent show: ( 1) buckling occurred at the end of bottom flange wh ich w ou ld not buckle at normal atmosphere temperature no matter the beam is fixed or smi ply supported; ( 2) catenary action enhanced the fire-resistance capacity of the composite be
