By means of a t ificial field_cag e ex p iments, both int a_ and inte specific competition among the adults of th ee common, mix ed g ass_feeding g asshoppe s, Sp hingonotus ningsianus Zheng et Gow , Comp sorhipis davidiana ( Sauss) , Pseudotmethis alashanicus B. Bienko on the dese t g ass land of the east side of Helan mountains in N ingx ia was detected. T he esults of daily capacity fo eating, high mo tality and low fecundity showed that st ong int aspecific compesition among species at hig he densities existed. Inte specific competition w as w eake than int aspecific competition. T he inte specific competition was co mplex in its effects. T he species w ith la ge size had hig he mo talit y but w ithout distinctive diffe ence in ep oduction f om the species of smalle size.
