1.1Background and significance of the Study
English is one of the major courses in high school learning. As is knoportant role in foreign language teaching and learning. It notonly provides enough linguistic input,but also lays a foundation for learners furtherdevelopment in listening,speaking and ake his effort to improve students reading ability throughout his teaching. But theyfail to make it by simply asking students to read more. Reading strategies should beintroduced and scientific training should be provided to students to enhance theirreading prehension.Hoost of English teachers are lack of efficient methods to teach reading.They either adopt translation approach or take test-oriented attitudes toultiple choice items after reading the material, and then theteacher briefly explains ing amount of materials students have read does notimprove reading. Instead, students are bored by the teachers rigid teacher-dominatedteaching,and they are lack of necessary reading strategies. It is most urgent to teachlearners ho rather than by themselves.In this study, the guided teaching plan is to be applied to the teaching of reading toenhance learners reading strategies so as to improve reading ability as the final goal.
