Many studies have shoarkers are indispensable elements tothe successful munication; they help control the coherence and relevance of a discourseand facilitate the understanding of utterances. According to Carter and McCarthy, foreignlanguage learners should master the usage of discourse markers, because they play afundamental role in interpreting utterances and in spoken interactions (Carter and McCarthy67).
