Multimodal DiscourseAnalysis (hereafter MDA) bees the hot issue of the recent research for varioussemiotic resources are employed in our daily life. The overarching objective of thepresent research is to explore the application of MDA to the multimodal textbooks. According to history experience and present condition,textbook is still the major teaching media in secondary education, basis of teaching andlearning for teachers and students, and leading role of teaching in classroom. Englishtextbook has a greatly significant sense for English teaching, thus it has practical valueto study the English textbooks. As a major type of education discourse, textbookdiscourse has undergone tremendous changes in its form. Therefore, the constantstudying on textbook discourse is of great importance.Multimodal discourse refers to the ne of text in iotic resources are interacted together to create meaning.The aim of multimodal analysis is to integrate and correlate the representational,interactive and textual meanings realized through different elements.
