( Nationa l Cent er f or Ma t er nal a nd Childr en H ea lth, China CDC, Beij ing 100089, China) Abstract: Obj ective To acknow ledge the natural physical growth patt ern of exclusively breastfeeding infants in capital Cities and to provide the reference for growth monit oring and nutritional evaluat ion. Methods According t o the WH O 2006 grow th monitoring project , 1 3 3 exclusively breastfeeding infants w ere recruited in six capital cit ies in China. The longitudinal weight, length, and head circumference w ere measured from the birth to 12 months old. T he monitoring frequency was 16 times in total. Results Compared w ith birth weight and height, t he weight of infant was 2 t imes after 3 months old and 3 times at 12 months old, and the length w as 1. 5 time at 12 months old. The value of weight, height and head circumference w as higher in boys than in girls, and the difference w as significant( P 0.01) . Compared to WHO 2006 new grow th standard, the weight, height and head circumference value w as higher in our capital cities breastfeeding infant, except for seven days and fourteen days. Conclusions T he grow th and development status of six capital cities breast feeding infant are in good condition. The grow th potential of infants in capital China achieved WH O 2006 new standard.
