ragonflies and damselflies belong to the order Odonata. They are one of
D
the most beautiful and spectacular insects in the world. Their life is closely
intertwined with wetlands – naiads (larvae) live under water from months to years
before emerging as adults; while the adults hunt for insects over water and lay
their eggs in water or water edge. Even a small pond supports a large number of
these aerial acrobats for part of their life.
Spring and summer are the best seasons to look for dragonflies, thus Hong Kong
Wetland Park (HKWP) will organise the “Dragonfly Festival” from June to September
to equip the public with knowledge on dragonflies. By offering a variety of
activities including thematic exhibition,
roadshows, guided tours, workshops,
lectures, drama performances and snap
shot competition, it is aimed to arouse
public awareness in conservation of
dragonflies and wetlands.
